Job Description
Provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment at designated Medication Clinic locations. Reviews and approves all treatment plans; provides consultation to staff as needed.
Essential Functions
- Prescribes medications and otherwise facilitates medication management of physical conditions in coordination with the treating psychiatrist and with a working knowledge of psychiatric medications
- Conducts medical and psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and diagnoses
- Assists the treatment team in the comprehensive assessment of :
Psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and response, and risk behaviors)Mental status, and diagnosis
Physical health and dental healthUse of drugs or alcoholEducation and employmentSocial development and functioningActivities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and Family structure and relationshipsCollaborates with registered nurses in assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educates consumers regarding psychotropic medicationsProvides support, education, and counseling to family members of consumers to help them become knowledgeable about mental illnessCollaborates in the treatment process, and assists in their family member’s progressProvides on-site crisis assessment and management of consumers during regular work hoursInvolved in consumer care including discharge planning of consumers as neededSubmits written reports and oral testimonies and presentations of opinion in commitment and / or other legal proceedings, which may include a wide range of treatment, rehabilitative and support services matters as requiredMaintains core competencies in relation to working with co-occurring disorders through continuing education and implementing skills into all aspects of treatmentTrains staff in the knowledge and skills basic to the treatment of persons with severe and persistent mental illnessesDirects and collaborates with registered nurses to develop, revise, maintain and supervise team psychopharmacologic and medical treatment and medication policies and proceduresAttends staff meetings, workshops, and seminars to learn agency policy, rules, regulations, and procedures; participates in on-going in-service training as well as required external trainingAssists in the development and implementation of programmatic goals and objectivesProvides consultative psychiatric services to Health Team staff committed to improving general health and well-being of members it serves with severe mental illnessConsults with Health Team staff to distribute evidence-based psychiatric education to the teamSupports and assists with the facilitation of Care Plans for consumersPerforms other duties as assignedQualifications
Board certified or Board eligible in psychiatry and licensed to practice medicine in the state of OklahomaOne year relevant experienceExcellent verbal and written communication skillsGeneral skill in exercising independent judgment, tact, patience, and understanding; maintaining effective working relationships with consumers, other staff, and the communityMust complete all in-service and external training requirementsTwo years of relevant experience preferredClinical supervisory experience preferredHOW WE TAKE CARE OF YOU!
