Job Description
ECS is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Database Administrator to support our USPS client. The candidate will enhance enterprise services and solutions for USPS, as part of an integrated evaluation, integration, strategy, design, implementation, and operational maintenance program. This position is responsible for administering, troubleshooting, and maintaining databases. The candidate should have experience in various database technologies with strong on-premises solutions such as SQL and Postgres, and cloud-based platforms such as AWS. The successful candidate will contribute to database operations and use technology to continuously improve the team's performance. This role will support AI / ML initiatives, bridging traditional database administration with AI-driven data workflows to ensure scalable, secure, and ready-for-automation systems. The role may involve support for AI / ML projects and use cases, including NLP, data provenance, LLMs / RAG, or deep learning.
Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor the performance and maintenance of on-premises SQL databases
- Manage and monitor Linux server failover clusters
- When required, manage and monitor the performance of cloud-based databases such as AWS
- Support the deployment of new databases and schema objects in on-premises and cloud environments
- Monitor and maintain databases to ensure stability and optimal performance
- Manage databases for backup, restore, and replication processes
- Ensure all databases are regularly backed up and secure from unauthorized access
- Ensure that databases are secure and adhere to industry standards
- Provide support for database-related issues and other requests from users
- Troubleshoot database issues and take corrective measures to resolve them
- Analyze and troubleshoot database issues and take necessary actions to resolve them
- Monitor and optimize database performance
- Generate reports to measure database performance, utilization, and growth
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure high availability and performance
- Plan and implement database activities including upgrades and patching
- Partner with data scientists, data architects, and federal stakeholders to deploy AI / ML models in production
Required Skills
US citizenship with active Top-Secret clearanceTen (10)+ years of systems design and analysis experience, including a minimum of five (5) years as a technical / task leadMaster's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Management or equivalentStrong understanding of database architecture and designKnowledge of database security and access controlsAdvanced knowledge of SQL and database query languagesExpertise in troubleshooting, performance tuning, and query optimizationExcellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamExperience with monitoring, updates, upgrades, testing, and preventative maintenance of Database PlatformsExperience with Large Language Models, NLP, GenAI, and scaling AI toolsExperience with query optimization for data aggregation and report generationExperience with version control systems (e.g., Git)Desired Skills
