POSITION SCOPE
The DOT Inspection Technician will perform comprehensive Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections and repairs across multiple locations. This role requires extensive travel to ensure vehicles and equipment meet federal and state safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in diverse environments.
This position may include day or night shift work, extensive traveling, overtime, and weekend work.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Conduct thorough DOT inspections / repairs of commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and trailers, in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Perform safety assessments, brake tests, emissions checks, and tire inspections
- Must be able to inspect, identify, and repair most of the discrepancies.
- Document inspection findings accurately and complete all required reports and forms
- Identify safety issues or violations and communicate findings to fleet managers and drivers
- Coordinate travel schedules and routes efficiently to cover assigned regions
- Maintain inspection equipment and ensure all tools are calibrated and in good working condition
- Stay updated on DOT regulations, industry standards, and best practices
- Provide guidance and training to drivers and fleet staff on safety procedures and compliance requirements
- Travel extensively, often on short notice, to various locations including remote areas
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or automotive / mechanical certification preferredCDL is preferredValid driver's license with a clean driving recordPrior experience with DOT inspections or vehicle maintenance is highly desirableStrong mechanical and repair aptitude and understanding of vehicle systemsExcellent organizational and time-management skillsAbility to work independently and handle multiple assignments simultaneouslyFlexibility to travel extensively, including overnight stays and varied schedulesGood communication skills and professionalismAbility to lift, bend, and operate inspection equipmentComfortable working in various weather conditions and environmentsAbility to stand for extended periods and perform physical inspectionsSelf-directed and can work independently with minimal supervisionExtended out-of-town travel, night shift, and / or weekend work is requiredAbility to pass a pre-employment drug testMust be able to pass a Government Background CheckFisher Industries is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
