YPP College Math Literacy Worker
Relevance of the Position :
The purpose of a College Math Literacy Worker (MLW) is to guide and mentor a team of High School Math Literacy Workers through ongoing support, math and advocacy workshops, planning, and debrief sessions that will help them in their personal and professional development as learners, teachers, leaders, and organizers.
Time Commitment (Summer + School year) :
40 hours of training
15 + hours per week of programming in the school year
- 25 + hours per week of programming in the summer
Compensation
$17 / hour
Payments every two weeks, from The Young People's Project Inc.
Major Responsibilities :
Understand and be able to articulate YPP Mission, History, and Purpose of Math Literacy workMastery of the CurriculumEnsuring the lesson is prepared and mockedEnsuring Students are learning and mastering the materialsMeeting with other staff to coordinate the flow of the day, lesson plan, turn in lesson plans on time to get feedback and make adjustments before any outreachDocumenting where students need help and which skills need workHave continued and timely communication with other instructors and CoordinatorTake notes during sessions in order to inform skill building and development of program and MLWsConduct and document one-on-ones and make that information available to DirectorFoster an effective relationship with MLWsEnsure that attendance and other data collection is tracked and documented constantly and regularlySkills and Abilities
Proven ability to work well with people, especially young people (high school and college age peers)Good listening, written and oral communication skillsDemonstrated leadership and organizing skillsSound math background preferred, willingness to improve math background requiredComputer literate and familiar with the use of technology to promote program growthBaseline mastery of at least Algebra 1 preferred .
