Assistant Nurse Manager
The University of Iowa Health Care presents an opportunity for an experienced nurse leader to join our team. We are seeking a full time Assistant Nurse Manager for the Vascular and Neuroscience Intermediate and Acute Care Unit (2RC). The Assistant Nurse Manager interfaces with the administrative and clinical nursing staff to provide leadership in improving and maintaining the delivery of care processes for a specific unit and / or patient populations. The Assistant Nurse Manager assumes delegated responsibility for implementation of daily operations for specific units and / or patient populations.
The Vascular and Neuroscience Intermediate and Acute Care Unit (2 RCP) is a 34-bed intermediate acute care unit specializing in comprehensive, head-to-toe, compassionate care for adult neurology, neurosurgical, and vascular surgery patients. These patients may need telemetry or intensive neurological monitoring or both.
We Provides Care for Patients with the Following Conditions :
- Neuro stroke
- General neurology
- Neurointerventional radiology (neuro IR)
- Vascular specialties
Responsibilities :
Participates in the assessment and evaluation of nursing care requirements for the patient populationAssists in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care for a patient population, which are consistent with current nursing practice and the condition and age of the patientsAssesses patient care to ensure that patient assignment system reflects patient care needs and staff capabilitiesMonitors and contributes to individual patient care and discharge planning activities carried out by unit staff nursesCollaborates with multidisciplinary team members and implements care planning activities for specific group of patientsServes as a role model for staff by demonstrating clinical expertise when providing direct patient careServes as a resource for patient care problemsPractices according to department / division / unit policies, procedures, protocols and practice guidelines to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staffCollaborates with the Nurse Manager to assist with implementation of division and unit(s) strategic plansImplements planned change to optimize unit functioningParticipates in monitoring staff competencyProvides constructive feedback and support to staff nurses, nursing assistants and nursing unit clerks to assist them to improve their performanceCollaborates with Nurse Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of division / unit Quality Management programCoordinates unit(s)-based QM / RU committeesUses relevant nursing research to improve clinical practiceParticipates in the development of research-based standards and other research utilization activitiesParticipates in research activitiesAnalyzes and uses data to guide operational and patient care decisions and evaluate outcomesMonitors and evaluates nursing personnel as delegated in accordance with established evaluation criteria, personnel policies and union contract(s)Participates in the ongoing implementation of current regulatory standards in order to meet state and national agency accreditationAssists Nurse Manager in developing effective communication and problem-solving skills within staffDevelops, implements and evaluates patient / family health education activities for the patient population with regard to the condition and age of the patientsFacilitates opportunities for nursing staff to improve and / or expand clinical knowledge and skillsProvides consultation upon request within area of clinical expertise to nursing staff / other health professionals throughout the hospitalFacilitates the educational experiences for health care students and monitors the care deliveredParticipates in meeting the educational needs of service institutions and agencies to maintain continuity of care related to specific patient care requirementsAdheres to professional and legal standards of nursing practiceAnalyzes own performance in accordance with position expectations, develops goals and implements a plan to meet those goalsMaintains and expands own knowledge and skillsMediates problems involving patient / families, hospital personnel and publicCoordinates implementation of specific action plans at the unit(s) level and aimed at meeting priority goals and objectivesEstablishes and maintains collaborative relationships with the health care teamProvides input into financial management activities including operational budgetary decisions and cost containmentCoordinates and / or participates in the implementation of specific cost control strategies identified by the Nurse ManagerAssumes responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements and current nursing and medical practiceDevelops management and consultant skills consistent with position responsibilitiesParticipates in and contributes to department / division / unit committees, meetings and / or projects in keeping with organizational / unit(s) strategic goalsIs self-directed in using timeSeeks out and is receptive to feedback from co-workers at all levels for the purpose of growth in the roleIncorporates the principles of Service Leadership to ensure positive patient / customer relationsAdheres to UI Health Care policies regarding personal conduct, including follows established leadership, remaining responsive to instruction and coaching from supervisors and meeting the standards of personal appearance, attendance and punctualityPercent of Time : 100% - 40 hours per week

A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is requiredCurrent license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire1+ years of nursing experience with demonstrated skills in leadershipExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skillsProficiency with computer software applications.
