Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contracts to determine scope, pricing, and bid strategies.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Superintendents to develop accurate cost projections.
  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Assess project risks, alternative construction methods, and value engineering options to optimize cost efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain historical cost data for reference in future projects.
  • Participate in bid reviews, proposal development, and client presentations.
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs, bid summaries, and cost breakdowns.
  • Ensure estimates comply with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated on market trends, material pricing, and construction methods.
  • Support the negotiation process by providing detailed cost analysis to internal teams and clients.
  • Work closely with accounting and finance teams to track actual costs vs. estimated budgets.
  • Assist with changing order pricing and cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Competency & Abilities :

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills for preparing accurate estimates.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, HeavyBid, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, PlanSwift, or similar).
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple bids in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills to secure the best pricing.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Qualifications & Experience :

  • 5+ years of experience in estimating, cost analysis, or preconstruction roles.
  • Experience in civil construction, infrastructure, energy, or heavy industrial projects required.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost structures.
  • Understanding of labor rates, material costs, and subcontractor pricing trends.
