Patient Care Technician UPMC Northwest, Seneca, PA

Responsibilities :

  • Provide compassionate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, procedures, and therapies while reporting changes in patient status to the RN.
  • Perform core nursing assistant duties including vital signs, blood glucose, weights, I&O, specimen collection, Foley care, and ADLs.
  • Perform additional clinical skills as needed, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, simple dressings, catheter or IV removal, point-of-care testing, bladder scans, and restraint application / removal.
  • Support unit operations by responding to call lights, transporting patients, passing meals, and maintaining equipment.
  • Document care accurately in the medical record and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team.
  • Participate in ongoing learning, competency development, quality initiatives, and department projects while maintaining safety and compliance with hospital policies.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must also meet one of the following :
  • 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR
  • 6 months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant / CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire / transfer / promotion for those with less than 1 year of experience, OR
  • Enrollment in a PT / OT / PA or related healthcare training program with at least one completed clinical rotation, OR
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic, or current enrollment in an EMT / Paramedic program, preferred.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :

  • CPR / BLS required per AHA standards (didactic and skills demonstration) within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS preferred.
