Advantra is partnering with a high growth AI software startup in San Francisco to hire a Head of Marketing to establish the marketing function and drive growth in the defense industry.
About the role
You will build the marketing function from the ground up, define the company narrative, and execute campaigns that generate qualified leads. You will manage conferences, content, growth infrastructure, and thought leadership. The role involves working closely with founders to position the company as a leader in AI for government contracting, build a repeatable marketing process, and scale the marketing team as the company grows.
Responsibilities
Own and execute the content strategy across product launches, customer stories, partnerships, and thought leadership.
Lead conference and event programs, including booth strategy and VIP customer engagement.
Build and manage the marketing technology stack for lead capture, nurturing, and analytics.
Craft and communicate the company narrative with founders and customers.
Drive pipeline and revenue through integrated marketing campaigns.
Scale the marketing team and processes as the company grows.
Establish the company as a thought leader in AI transformation for government contracting.
Measure and report on marketing performance to inform strategy.
Collaborate with sales and product teams to align marketing initiatives with business goals.
Core requirements
3 to 8 years of marketing experience at software companies serving legacy industries.
Experience building a marketing function from early stage to scale.
Proven track record in B2B marketing to enterprise customers and government stakeholders.
Experience with long sales cycles and complex buying processes.
Demonstrated ability to execute hands-on while building a team.
Strong storytelling and positioning skills for technical products.
Experience driving measurable growth through integrated marketing campaigns.
Experience managing conferences, events, or high-impact customer programs.
Familiarity with marketing technology stacks and lead management tools.
Strategic thinker with ability to align marketing with business objectives.
Nice to have
Experience in defense or government technology sectors.
Prior experience in AI or enterprise software marketing.
Familiarity with account-based marketing strategies.
Experience managing cross-functional teams in early stage startups.
Background in analytics-driven marketing and performance measurement.
