This position is located in Gainesville or Jacksonville, FL. Internal agency opening. The posting may fill multiple positions in District 2 (North and South sections).

Position Overview And Responsibilities

This is an Assistant Bureau Chief position for the District 2 Administration. The incumbent is expected to be aware of and abide by the Department's Standards of Conduct and departmental / work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and general orders. As supervisor, the incumbent supports and works toward fulfilling the Agency's Affirmative Action objectives. Compliance with Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply may be grounds for discharge.

  • Spends majority of time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees; planning and directing employees' work; and has authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinates or effectively recommend such action.
  • Assists the Bureau Chief in the overall management and administration of bureau operations, including policy / program implementation and monitoring related to administration, resource management, visitor services, protection and maintenance.
  • Provides daily consultation and recommendations to the Bureau Chief and park managers in administration, personnel, education, training, interpretation, citizen support organization, volunteer recruitment and utilization, and donation solicitation. In the absence of the Bureau Chief, handles routine and critical matters.
  • Manages the bureau office including administrative and personnel matters; monitors education and training programs, citizen support and volunteer coordination; assists in grants, budget tracking, and reconciliation, including internal performance compliance reviews and responses to audits.
  • Plans and directs construction and maintenance programs for the bureau; coordinates with staff, park managers, other offices, bureaus, permitting organizations, and the public sector as required.
  • Conducts on-site reviews of district parks to assess efficiency, operations, and staff morale; reports results and recommends corrective actions.
  • Plans and coordinates the district protection program, including Park Safety Inspections and adherence to safety standards and equipment; coordinates with local, regional, and state partners as needed.
  • Assists in implementing, coordinating, and monitoring resource management programs for parks within the district or statewide.
  • Represents the Bureau and Division at meetings, seminars, workshops, and conferences to obtain and furnish information.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Valid Driver's License

    This position has financial disclosure responsibility in accordance with Section 112.3145, F.S.

    Position Of Special Trust

    This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust per DEP Directive 422. Successful completion of background screening is required.

    Pay and Housing

    Pay : $6,375.00 monthly / $76,500.00 annually

    Residence Information : North Position : 3 bed / 2 bath house; South Position : 2 bed / 1 bath house
