JOB SUMMARY :
The Surgical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating surgical procedures for assigned physicians such as obtaining pre-operative testing, writing and communicating surgery orders, and collecting necessary documentation for surgeries.Assist physicians and advanced practice providers in the delivery of orthopedic care, assist with clinical procedures, provide patient education and ensure efficient clinic operations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Completes administrative tasks regarding surgeries including, but not limited to, scheduling patient appointments and surgeries, scheduling follow-up appointments, providing patients with appointment reminders, etc.Maintain excellent communication with surgery patients, including returning phone calls promptly.Acts as a liaison between the patients and the Physician and / or Surgeon.Ensure that all surgical cases are scheduled in a timely manner in accordance with the Physician or Surgeon’s directions.Ensuring adequate preparation for surgeries by scheduling the necessary equipment and procedure rooms with the Surgery Department.Understands applicable surgery procedures, such as the necessary time a surgery takes and the medical staff necessary, to properly maintain a surgical schedule.Responsible for continually monitoring the surgery schedule looking for inefficiencies.Manages surgical documents, gathering and inputting patients’ information, and entering post-surgery data into patients’ records.Assist patients with their documents and sign-in procedures. Maintains patient information and ensures that all patient information (Ex. demographics, contact information, health history, etc.) is updated in the patient’s chart.Ensures that all required documentation has been collected and processed prior to the surgery.Review the patient’s insurance eligibility and determine if a referral or prior authorization for surgery is required. Conducts prior authorization screening as directed by the patient’s health plan.Confirm that all patients have received, understood, and signed all consent forms regarding their procedure.Assists the Physician and / or Surgeon with providing patients with pre- and post-operative instructions Assists the Physician and / or Surgeon with providing education to the patient regarding their surgery.Assists the Physician and / or Surgeon with advising and counseling the patient regarding food, fluid, and medication intake and restriction prior to surgery.Ensure supplies have been replenished in work areas and exam rooms as necessary Conduct pre-operative assessments, including vitals and medical histories Assist with casting, splinting, wound care, suture removal, and brace fitting under provider supervision Administer medications and injections as ordered by providers Apply and remove orthopedic devices such as walking boots, slings, and braces Coordinate care with other departments such as radiology and physical therapy Support providers in managing patient messages and clinical inquiries All other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : Highschool Diploma or equivalent is required.Graduate of an accredited Nursing, Certified Medical Assistant, Paramedicine, or equivalent program is preferred.Certification :
CPR Certification for Health Care Providers Work Experience : Experience working within a surgical practice environment including but not limited to Orthopedic and General Surgery, preferred.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
