The Web Developer creates and updates survey content, navigates specification documents in Word, Excel, and / or PDF, and communicates directly with sponsors. This role ensures all pages are 508 compliant, creates and updates features of surveys, and writes basic code.
Work on surveys from beginning to end, from initial specification documents through production and annual updates.
Create and update survey content, testing, and existence on production.
Navigate specification documents in Word, Excel, and / or PDF files.
Communicate directly with each sponsor about expectations and clarifying any ambiguous text in specifications.
Basic Linux navigation is required (text editor, running scripts).
Verification of forms and behind-the-scenes calculations for each survey in Perl.
Make certain all pages are 508 compliant.
Navigate surveys to corresponding PDF forms in Acrobat Pro (PDF version, view form field names).
Create / update and is responsible for implementing what the sponsor wants, involving copying a feature from another survey or building an entirely new function.
Using Perl code, add a JavaScript plugin to a survey and parse data for information that impacts where to send the user next.
Testing / bug fixing, which involves monitoring the tracker for each in-testing survey and fixing issues as needed for the testers.
Run a load script once to test and put a ticket in for the actual change.
Required skills include good problem-solving and communication skills, and a willingness to proactively ask questions outside of the comfort zone. Most pages are generated using an internal forms library, but some manual work with HTML and CSS is required.
Qualifications Required skills include a basic understanding of how databases function, writing basic code in Perl / PHP, JavaScript, the ability to work independently, and good communication skills. A B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related field is highly preferred.
