Equipment Operator
The City of Fellsmere is seeking a skilled and reliable Equipment Operator to join our Public Works Department. This position plays an essential role in maintaining and improving the city's infrastructure, parks, roadways, and public spaces. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, safety-minded, and committed to delivering high-quality service to our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, mowers, and tractors.
- Assist with stormwater infrastructure and system maintenance upkeep.
- Assist with construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, parks, and facilities.
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment; report issues and coordinate necessary repairs.
- Ensure safe operation of all machinery and compliance with city, state, and federal safety standards.
- Support crews with manual labor as needed, including debris removal, landscaping, asphalt repair, and storm response.
- Respond to emergency situations such as flooding, roadway blockages, or storm damage.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and equipment operated.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.Minimum of one (1) year experience in equipment operation, public works, construction, or related field.Knowledge of safe equipment operation, traffic control, and work zone safety.Ability to perform heavy physical labor outdoors in varying weather conditions.Strong teamwork and communication skills; bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus given the community served.Working Conditions
Outdoor work environment with exposure to heat, rain, and varying weather conditions.May be required to work evenings, weekends, or emergency call-outs during storms or critical events.Position involves frequent lifting, bending, and operating machinery for extended periods.Why Join Us
