Overview
Industrial Color is looking for a Visual Merchandising Designer to support our luxury beauty client. This role operates with a hybrid schedule, with several days per week onsite in Midtown Manhattan. The visual merchandising designer will be involved in various aspects of visual merchandising from initial design development to execution, developing innovative and customer-centric design solutions through collaboration with the VM and Store Design teams. The designer will bring ideas to life through presentation materials and detailed drawings, and can move fluidly between visual merchandising and store design.
Base pay range
$105,000.00 / yr - $119,000.00 / yr
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
- Create technical drawings and planograms in SketchUp and AutoCAD for merchandising displays, launch units, and permanent merchandising
- Maintain awareness of trends, styles, materials and technology relative to the prestige and luxury beauty market
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of sustainable design best practices and proactively apply to all projects
- Format field team VM training guidelines and best practices for execution excellence & elevated merchandising
- Draft complete design document packages for new and remodeled retail store interiors from conceptual design through design development
- Work with cross-functional groups from Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, Sales, and Construction to create comprehensive fixture designs
- Assist with sourcing manufacturing of new projects once the design has been finalized
- Review samples with vendor representatives to ensure specifications are properly followed and approved for production
- Create "design intent" drawings for sourcing new fixture systems and displays for existing stores, and for new / remodel programs
- Support store execution with detailed design / installation guides to ensure flawless execution
- Understand Visual Merchandising / Merchandising to ensure seamless store design and product presentation; knowledge of shelf, accessory, and componentry materials
- Track production to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
- Coordinate project kick-off meetings with VM and all departments; coordinate final installations with Sales, Millwork, General Contractors, and Retailers; produce punch lists and follow up until completion

5-10 years of related experience in VM, Store Design, etcAbility to express and decode brand image, values and purposeConceptual and practical knowledge in own discipline and related disciplinesKnowledge of luxury product and aestheticUses knowledge of internal business issues to improve practices and proceduresSolves complex problems; can bring a new perspective using existing solutionsAbility to work independently with minimal guidance; self-drivenMay lead projects or project steps within a broader projectComprehensive knowledge of retail department store environments including ADA guidelinesThorough knowledge of store design disciplines, building and code knowledge, fixture design, materials and manufacturing processesStrong organizational, communication, problem-solving, customer service, and time management skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a team with good time managementSelf-motivated with the ability to handle multiple projects and shift prioritiesUnderstanding of consumer paths and customer experiences rulesStrong understanding of finishes and materials, basic constructionBachelor degree in Industrial, Interior, Product, or Furniture Design (or equivalent) is requiredExpert in SketchUp and AutoCADStrong Adobe Creative Suite ability (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and PowerPointBenefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is $105,000 - $119,000 annually. Ranges are based on factors including labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
