Overview
Locations : New Braunfels, San Antonio, Del Valle, Manor, New Braunfels region. This position is based at Hunter Stone Quarry in New Braunfels, TX, and may be required to assist the safety team with visits to Austin plant locations.
Position Summary
The safety and production lead is responsible for safe production at plant operations, including daily safety and health tasks required to support plant operations compliance and interacting with plant personnel to achieve the highest levels of safety, production, efficiency, and housekeeping. Safety and health administration, training, auditing and providing direction for location safety and health compliance are included in the position's responsibilities.
This position will be based out of Hunter Stone Quarry in New Braunfels, TX, however, will also be responsible for assisting the safety team with visits to the Austin plants locations as well.
Essential Job Functions
- Lead safety programs and assist in administration and tracking of safety metrics
- Follow-up on new hire and task training for all plant and mine hourly employees
- Performs standard office duties, plant duties, equipment repairs and operates mobile equipment
- Work alongside plant team members to complete production and maintenance projects, and meet daily production goals
- Establishes and maintains effective communications within all areas of operation
- Performs regular inspections for safety, housekeeping and mechanical issues in all areas of the operation
- Implements and applies all safety rules, regulations and procedures of mine and property as set forth by federal, state, and local agencies and policies, as well as company guidelines and safety standards
- Assist management in developing mining plans, profit plans, AFE's, and monthly forecast
- Assist in maintaining safety and training records
- Works closely with the Sr. Team Coordinator and Production Supervisor to ensure implementation of scheduled maintenance on all equipment
- Participates in the plant safety committee
- Completes daily production, safety and maintenance reports accurately
- Maintains plant housekeeping and appearance standards and product quality as established
- Aids in the training of co-workers as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED; degree / certification in occupational health and safety is an assetMSHA Blue card preferredSafety Certifications1-2 years supervisory or related experience preferredMust have extensive knowledge of quarry production / operationsMust have and maintain a valid driver's licenseKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledgeable in MSHA regulations and complianceMust be able to exercise independent judgmentWorking knowledge of appropriate computer applicationsMust be able to communicate (read, write, speak) effectively in English and preferably SpanishPossess excellent verbal communication skillsAbility to work with little or no supervisionMust be a team playerStrong organizational, presentation, training and budgeting skillsKnowledge of plant components and departmental cost and productionBe willing to prepare for future growth potentials within plant and companyMust have and maintain a valid driver's license, good driving history and meet insurance requirements (MVR)Occasional travel will be required and primarily within the Division and assigned District area / locations. Works in all weather conditions including heat, cold, ice, rain and in high humidity and is required to work in all plant environments. Incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs). Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dB.
