Position summary
The Providence Public School District (PPSD) seeks exceptional Secondary Science Teachers who are highly qualified to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience.
Structured Literacy requirement : The Rhode Island Right to Read Act (July 2019) requires educators to exhibit proficiency in or awareness of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. This position requires Structured Literacy Proficiency Level within one year of hire.
Education and certification requirements
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
- RIDE Certification Requirements : MS / Secondary General Science, and / or Secondary Physics, and / or Secondary Biology, and / or Secondary Chemistry.
- Fully-certified as described above, or willingness to become fully certified (including emergency certification if necessary; fully-certified strongly preferred).
Qualifications
You must complete the new hire compliance training prior to your first day of employment.Bilingual preferred.Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check; start date contingent on clear background check.Excellent technology skills; familiarity with communication, presentation, and data management tools across desktop, web-based, and mobile environments.Willingness and ability to model information, communication, technology, and media literacy for students, colleagues, parents, and community.Willingness to continuously develop and evolve skills and support colleagues in their development.Responsibilities & duties
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active and engaging learning.Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment; differentiate instruction using relevant technology.Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities; provide appropriate feedback on assignments.Manage student behavior by creating a warm, welcoming, and culturally relevant environment.Monitor student progress using data, adjust teaching strategies as needed.Maintain and update accurate records of students' progress and development.Communicate regularly with students, colleagues, and families regarding progress and needs.Provide a variety of learning materials and resources to support all students.Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings and professional development.Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments according to state standards.Perform other duties as assigned.About Providence Public Schools
