Summary
The Coordinator of Music Ministry is responsible for planning, coordination, execution, and development of the music ministry for weekly Mass worship services and other celebrations. The goal is to engage the faithful in song during worship and draw them into a closer relationship with God. The Coordinator should exhibit reverence for Mass and liturgical celebrations and help parishioners nurture a love and devotion to the Catholic faith so that they may spread the Gospel through prayer and song.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and coordinate music and accompaniment for all liturgical celebrations (e.g., Saturday and Sunday Masses, Holy Days of Obligation, ordinations, parish events, prayer services, Holy Week, weddings, funerals, quinceañeras, etc.).Coordinate and support music ministry ensembles (adult choir, children’s choir, Spanish choir, instrumentalists / orchestra, contemporary groups).Schedule musicians, cantors, and ensembles, including substitutes for planned or unplanned absences.Ensure musicians and choirs are present and prepared for liturgical celebrations.Introduce new music, including Spanish or bilingual selections, as requested by the Pastor.Lead and accompany weekly choir rehearsals (minimum one mid-week practice and pre-Mass practice as needed).Foster reverence and respect among the choir during Mass.Maintain and update rosters; recruit singers and musicians; prepare weekly announcements and schedules.Contribute to parish social media and coordinate music for special events and concerts.Train cantors, accompanists, and musicians; meet with couples and families as needed; prepare worship aids and liturgical scripts.Participate in briefings with the Liturgy Office and Pastor; engage with parish communities (Faith Formation, Spanish, contemporary services, ACTS, Youth Ministry, etc.).Create annual budget for the music ministry and develop plans for growth and development of the choir and ministry.Ensure participation in the annual Ministry Fair; attend Liturgy Committee meetings; pursue continuing education and maintain equipment and music licenses.Maintain the music library and ensure copyright permissions are up to date.Perform other duties as directed by the Pastor.Requirements
Required Qualifications :A practicing Roman Catholic in good standingUndergraduate degree in MusicExcellence on piano and proficiency in conducting, especially choral conductingExperience with sound amplification and audio systemsMinimum of two years directing / coordinating music ministry in a Catholic parish or equivalentKnowledge of Catholic liturgy and related documents; ability to plan liturgical musicStrong organizational and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with staff and parishLeadership ability to train and form music ministers; active listener; maintain confidentialityExcellent written and oral communication; able to coordinate with diverse parish groupsTeam-oriented with a positive work environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe AcrobatMeet Archdiocesan employment requirements; provide proof of valid driver’s license and insurancePreferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in musicOrganistFluency in Spanish (desired but not required)Physical Demands / Work Environment
Frequent standing, walking, sitting; occasional climbing stairs, balancing, crouching; may lift up to 25 pounds. Moderate noise level in office.
