Industrial Facilities Mechanic (Manufacturing Plant)

Help keep a busy manufacturing site safe, clean, and running like clockwork. As the Industrial Facilities Mechanic, you’ll report to the Facilities Lead and split your time between hands-on facility maintenance (about 80%) and custodial support (about 20%). Your work ensures production areas, offices, and grounds are inspection-ready every day.

A Day in the Life

You start your morning walk-through at 7 : 00 am, checking eye-wash stations and logging PMs on your tablet. A flickering light in a production bay? You replace the fixture and verify the circuit. A restroom dispenser is loose? You secure it and move on. Before lunch, you team up with a skilled tradesperson on a larger repair—staging parts, collecting tools, and documenting work orders. In the afternoon, you swap HVAC filters, lube key points, and run the floor scrubber so aisles meet OSHA housekeeping standards. You finish by updating the team at the daily tier meeting and tidying your cart for tomorrow.

What You’ll Tackle

  • Troubleshoot and perform basic electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical fixes (e.g., light fixtures, ceiling tiles, door hardware, dispensers, minor leaks).
  • Complete daily / weekly PM checklists such as filter changes, lubrication points, and eye-wash inspections.
  • Assist skilled trades on larger jobs—stage parts, gather tools, and record detailed work orders (parts and labor).
  • Support 5S and waste-segregation programs; conduct visual safety audits and report hazards.
  • Participate in facility projects : painting, drywall, fixture installs, event setup / teardown.
  • Order parts, supplies, and equipment as directed; stock and rotate janitorial inventory and alert the Facilities Manager when low.
  • Provide light cleanup in offices, production, and common areas; operate and maintain floor scrubbers and other industrial cleaning equipment.
  • Keep work areas compliant with OSHA housekeeping expectations; dispose of waste and scrap per regulations.
  • Follow LOTO, PPE, and chemical-handling procedures; maintain a clean, organized cart and storage area.
  • Share updates and improvement ideas in daily tier meetings; represent Facilities with a service-first mindset.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications (Required)

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 6+ months of experience in maintenance, custodial services, construction, or a related field (school co-op or military service counts).
  • Basic proficiency with hand / power tools and safe ladder use.
  • Comfortable closing work orders and emailing from a computer or tablet.
  • Ability to earn forklift and aerial-lift certification.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Lift and push / pull up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Frequent bending and stooping; dexterity for small parts.
  • Capable of working in noisy environments and confined spaces.
  • Comfortable on elevated platforms.
  • Stand / walk for 8–10 hours.
