Summary
The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a developmentally appropriate early childhood education program in accordance with state licensing regulations and program policies. This position ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that promotes children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Duties
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans aligned with the center’s curriculum and the Ohio Early Learning and Development Standards (or applicable state standards).
- Maintain supervision of all children at all times, ensuring active engagement and safety both indoors and outdoors.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive classroom environment that fosters respect, cooperation, and a love for learning.
- Conduct daily health and safety checks of the classroom and playground.
- Observe, assess, and document children’s developmental progress using approved assessment tools.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding their child’s progress, behavior, and classroom activities.
- Model positive guidance and behavior management techniques consistent with program policy.
- Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and daily report records as required by licensing regulations.
- Train, guide, and supervise assistant teachers and aides to support effective classroom operations.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development trainings, and annual evaluations.
- Ensure compliance with all state licensing regulations , health and safety requirements, and program policies.
- Report all serious incidents, injuries, or concerns to the administrator immediately and document per policy.
Requirements
Must meet state licensing requirements for a Lead Teacher, which may include :Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, orEquivalent coursework and experience per state licensing standards.Minimum of [insert number] years of experience working with young children in a licensed early childhood program.Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate curriculum design.Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
