As an Assistant Service Deli Manager, you will assist with overseeing the daily operations of the deli department, ensuring exceptional customer service, high-quality food preparation, and smooth workflow. You will help lead a team, assist with managing staff schedules, training, and performance, while helping in the efforts of maintaining inventory control and ensuring product quality and freshness. Your focus on food safety, cleanliness, and compliance with health regulations will be key to maintaining a top-tier service deli. Your strong leadership, organizational skills, and commitment to customer satisfaction will drive the department's success and enhance the overall shopping experience for customers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the training, scheduling, and supervision of the deli staff, ensuring they provide excellent customer service and maintain high standards in food preparation and presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels, place orders, and ensure that stock is rotated and properly stored to minimize waste and maximize freshness.
- Oversee and actively contribute toward food preparation to ensure it meets the company's standards for taste, presentation, and food safety.
- Address customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and ensure customers are satisfied with their deli experience, maintaining a high level of service at all times.
- Ensure all deli operations adhere to local, state, and federal health and safety regulations, including food handling, sanitation, and cleanliness.
- Monitor department performance, manage costs, and work within budget to maximize profitability while ensuring high-quality products.
- Drive sales through product promotions, special offers, and by recommending popular or seasonal items to customers, increasing overall deli department revenue.
Guest Service
Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner.Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries.Promote a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication with guests and team members.Provide excellent guest service by acknowledging guests promptly and taking their orders accurately. Stock shelves and maintain displays according to store standards.Ensure product freshness by monitoring quality, rotating stock and checking expiration dates.Unload deliveries and organize stock rooms; check all incoming items for quality and expiration dates.Ensure perishable items are stored at the correct temperature and dry ingredients are stored in a cool, dry place to prevent spoilage.Maintain accurate inventory of deli supplies and ingredients using a FIFO system to reduce waste and ensure older ingredients are used first.Ensure recipes are followed to maintain product consistency and quality.Ensure deli goods are packaged appropriately to maintain freshness and comply with food safety regulations.Label items with pricing, ingredients, allergen information, and expiration dates.Oversee the display of deli goods and rotate stock regularly for freshness and appeal.Minimize product waste by tracking production against sales and adjusting production based on demand.Dispose of waste properly or recycle according to store policies.Cleanliness and Safety
Maintain a clean and organized work area.Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.Ensure products are stored at proper temperatures to prevent spoilage.Oversee hygiene practices for all deli staff, including hand washing, glove use, and equipment sanitation.Label products containing common allergens to avoid cross-contamination.Report safety hazards or equipment issues to Store Director.Responsible for accident reporting for team members and guests in a timely manner.Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.Contribute to cleaning responsibilities in the department.Department Financial Management
Assist in tracking daily, weekly, and monthly sales to meet targets and identify areas for improvement.Implement strategies to minimize product loss through rotation, handling, and accurate inventory management.Create efficient schedules aligned with sales forecasts and labor budgets.Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain records to control costs and avoid overstocking or shortages.Price products to maintain profitability while staying competitive and aligned with company pricing strategies.Order deli products strategically to meet demand and prevent excess inventory, coordinating with vendors for cost-effective purchasing.Review department financial statements to assess performance and inform decisions.Contribute to annual department budget planning and manage expenses.Monitor and reconcile department sales, shrink, and waste reports.Approve and oversee markdowns, discounts, and department promotions with approval from Deli Manager.Assist with reconciling discrepancies in inventory or pricing as needed.Train staff on weighing, pricing, and labeling procedures to maintain accuracy.Cash Handling
Operate cash registers and handle transactions accurately.Follow store policies on returns, exchanges, and refunds.Ensure the security of cash and other financial transactions.Team Collaboration
Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.Encourage teamwork and guest service; support the Lee's Marketplace Mission and Core Values.Participate in team meetings and training sessions.Assist other departments as needed.Work in a fast-paced environment with tact and patience.Help ensure products are sold before expiration dates.Attend departmental, store, and company meetings; contribute to profits and productivity.Know and follow all company policies; use Team Member Handbook to ensure compliance and promote a harassment-free environment.Maintain coaching records and be a professional example for all team members.Position Requirements

Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).Previous experience in food service or guest service (preferred).Serv Safe CertificationSkills and Abilities
