Public Works Technician
This is unskilled or semi-skilled labor in the construction and maintenance activities of Public Works or responsible skilled work in the operation and maintenance of various equipment used in Public Works. Employee may be required to operate a variety of small to heavy construction equipment and to perform laboring duties. Level at time of hiring is dependent upon meeting education and experience requirements.
Effectively communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, contractors, engineers, companies, vendors, outside agencies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Accurately and expeditiously receives and delivers messages and information to the appropriate individuals.
Ability to prepare accurate and thorough written records and reports.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervisory direction.
Ability to understand and quickly and accurately follow brief oral and written instructions on moderately complex matters.
High school diploma and / or one (1) year of experience involving any area of manual labor, construction, or closely related area (depending on assignment).

Public Works Director Interview
Must possess a valid Florida driver's license with acceptable driving record (non-commercial class "E" or Commercial driver's license class "B") depending on assignment or have ability to obtain as required by hiring supervisor.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current Drugs and Alcohol policy.
During occasions of local emergencies this position may be required to report to perform emergency tasks, which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members. The Incident Commander and the employee's department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires lift up to 100 pounds with assistance, and / or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must have sufficient physical strength and ability to perform manual labor work inside buildings and outside, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
