JOB DESCRIPTION
This position involves performing a variety of advanced technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist will be responsible for operating nuclear medicine instrumentation and ensuring the accurate, safe, and effective use of radioactive materials. The role includes knowledge of gamma cameras (both planar and SPECT), PET, radiation detectors, dose calibrators, and the quality control of all equipment. Familiarity with Radiation Safety practices, handling of radioactive materials, and adherence to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) guidelines is essential.
The technologist must possess a thorough understanding of radiopharmacy operations, including preparation, measurement, and quality assurance of radiopharmaceuticals used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Ensuring compliance with radiation safety protocols and applying ALARA principles—using time, distance, and shielding—is critical to minimizing patient and staff exposure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Radiopharmaceutical Administration & Assay (20%)
Accurately inject and administer radiopharmaceuticals, calculate proper dosages, and record activities in dose tracking systems. Prepare and measure radiopharmaceuticals while adhering to safety standards.
Protocol & Patient Positioning (20%)
Understand and implement nuclear medicine protocols. Position patients correctly on imaging equipment and monitor them throughout procedures, ensuring optimal image acquisition.
Venipuncture & IV Access (20%)
Initiate intravenous (IV) access using appropriate aseptic techniques, selecting optimal sites for infusion, and maintaining patient safety.
Equipment Operation & Quality Control (20%)
Operate all nuclear medicine instrumentation efficiently, perform necessary quality control checks, and troubleshoot equipment issues promptly to ensure accurate imaging.
Radiation Safety & Compliance (20%)
Rigorously apply radiation safety regulations, handle radioactive materials responsibly, and uphold NRC guidelines for transportation, handling, and administration.
WHAT YOU BRING
Education & Certification :
Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) preferred.
Licensure or registration per state requirements.
Certification : ARRT (Nuclear Medicine) or NMTCB preferred._
Experience :
Prior experience in nuclear medicine procedures and instrumentation.
Experience with radiopharmaceutical preparation and quality control processes.
Knowledge of radiation safety principles and protocols.
Technical Skills :
Proficiency in operating gamma cameras, PET, SPECT, and other nuclear medicine equipment.
Ability to perform IV insertions and handle radioactive materials safely.
Strong understanding of protocols, dosage calculations, and documentation.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related field.
Certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by ARRT or NMTCB.
Previous experience in a hospital or outpatient setting performing diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures.
Knowledge of radiation safety regulations, quality assurance procedures, and radiopharmaceutical handling.
