Assistant Varsity Indoor Track Coach

Overview

Assistant Varsity Indoor Track Coach position at Oxford Public Schools. Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Athletic Coach is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes to achieve a high level of skill, discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Instructs and demonstrates skill sets / techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
• With the Athletic Director, plans and develops practice and game schedules, activities, and training programs.
• Ensures proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms.
• Arranges transportation for athletic participants and hotel accommodations for overnight events; travels with student athletes on team buses to and from games.
• Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintains necessary records and forms (insurance, attendance, medical); completes required paperwork and team statistics.
• Ensures all student athletes are eligible, insured, have paid fees, and are in good physical condition from the beginning to the end of the season.
• Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles; supervises students at home and away games to ensure appropriate behavior; explains and enforces rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of athletes.
• Checks and secures offices, storage rooms, outside doors, locker rooms, and lights after last player leaves; inspects facilities for health and safety concerns.
• Ensures medical and safety requirements are followed; completes District injury reports for any students injured within 24 hours of injury.
• Secures approval from the Athletic Director for all adult volunteers associated with the sport.
• Submits athletic roster, student information, inventories, season statistics, and list of award winners to the Athletic Director as requested.
• Assigns duties to assistant coaches under jurisdiction, including pre-season practices.
• Interacts professionally with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches and officials; resolves conflicts in a professional manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience : High school diploma or equivalent (GED); two years of related experience; prior successful experience coaching student-athletes preferred; CPR / AED / First Aid certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of effective coaching techniques and sports rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students. Skill-based : ability to work with diverse backgrounds, resolve conflicts, maintain confidentiality, build positive team spirit, and lead / motivate adolescent students. Ability-based : comprehend instructions and problem solving.

Physical Demands

While performing duties, must be able to communicate and comprehend; lift, transport, and / or move equipment up to 30 pounds, and up to 100 pounds at times; ascend / descend stairs, ropes, or ladders. Vision requirements include close / distance vision and adjusted focus / peripherals; ability to demonstrate techniques / skills for athletic participation. Work Environment

Work is generally performed in a school environment, on athletic fields and in athletic settings, indoors and outdoors. Noise level is moderate to loud, varies with activities and student population. Employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may be exposed to bodily fluids and / or bloodborne pathogens.
