Overview

This role is based in San Antonio, TX and focuses on Commissioning (Cx) engineering for building projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and / or support multiple commissioning projects including client interface, team coordination, schedule and budget management
  • Assist the Cx Authority / Engineer with completion of construction and renovation commissioning projects
  • Perform Cx reviews of construction documents and equipment submittals
  • Work effectively as a team member
  • Develop commissioning plans, reports, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test procedures
  • Assist with functional testing of systems
  • Contribute to improving Cx processes and best practices
  • Perform technical analysis of building operation (controls, sequences, etc.)
  • Proactively communicate with a wide range of client stakeholders
  • Perform jobsite field observations, write detailed field reports, and lead Cx meetings
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Mentor and develop less-experienced employees in a team-based atmosphere

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with diverse clients
  • Solid understanding of HVAC and electrical system designs and operations
  • Working knowledge of building automation and lighting control systems
  • Working knowledge of Cx Industry Standards (ASHRAE, ACG, BCxA) and code requirements
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (CEC Title 24, ASHRAE, IECC, IMC, NEC, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents (mechanical, controls, plumbing, electrical)
  • Proficient understanding of electrical and fire / life safety systems
  • Knowledge of construction industry safety practices and procedures
  • Troubleshooting of field devices and control hardware and software
  • Capability to perform functional testing of building MEP systems
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Skilled with PDF editors (Bluebeam, Adobe) and project management software
  • Ability to travel up to 30% (travel expectations may vary by project)
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • 3 years of experience minimum in Commissioning or MEP consulting; 4 years preferred
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • Recognized Building Commissioning Certification preferred (or ability and desire to obtain one)
  • 7 years of experience minimum in Commissioning or MEP design consulting; 8 years preferred
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship
  • Compensation and Benefits

    Salary Range : $83,000 - $112,000. Minimums and maximums vary by location. Pay is based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options. Benefits include health insurance, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings, paid holidays, and PTO; details provided per local laws.
