Job Description
Peterson’s is seeking a detail-oriented, meticulous production editor with excellent communication skills to join our educational publishing team. The production editor will work within the editorial team and closely with the content development, multimedia, and video teams to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of educational materials, including test-prep books, digital courses, and practice tests along with a variety of interactive and video products. The production editor’s expertise in project management, book production, digital publishing, copyediting, and proofreading is essential in maintaining the quality and consistency of our educational products.
Responsibilities :
- Manage the production process and schedule for print titles from initial files to bound books.
- Copyedit and proofread content for digital and print formats, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency with Peterson’s style guide and editorial standards.
- Maintain, apply, and revise in-house style guides and formatting templates for both digital and print materials.
- Hire, supervise, and assess the work of freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers.
- Collaborate with design and the multimedia and videos team and provide guidance and feedback on layout, content, and formatting to optimize quality, readability, and visual appeal.
- Review and evaluate videos and interactive content to ensure alignment with content objectives and editorial standards.
- Conduct thorough quality checks at various stages of production to identify and resolve errors and formatting or layout issues.
- Manage project files, maintain accurate records, and track progress using project management software.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, journalism, communications, or a related field; a degree in education or instructional design or equivalent experience also acceptedTwo or more years of experience in book production, digital publishing, copyediting, proofreading, or combined equivalent experienceExcellent command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with a keen eye for detailIntermediate to expert knowledge of The Chicago Manual of StyleProficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and other project management software and productivity tools; familiarity with Adobe InDesign preferredStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsEnthusiasm for education and high-quality educational resourcesThis is a hybrid position—local candidates only. The salary range for this position is $55,000–$58,000, depending on experience.
