Principal Maintenance Worker - Trades & Events Operations

Parks Maintenance Technician

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; two years of combined experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and / or groundskeeping or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be highly motivated, goal driven, and a self-starter. Experience adhering to safety and environmental standards; strong interpersonal and communication skills, and able to work well with others. Must possess or obtain within nine months of employment, a Registered Technician Pesticide License. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education / degree verification required. This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Duties

Performs a variety of maintenance and operational tasks to support facilities, special events, athletic fields, and surrounding grounds. Assists with carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and small construction projects, and other trade-related work. Operates and maintains general trade services equipment and power tools. Supports department-related special events, including set-up and breakdown. Works in various outdoor conditions performing physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting, walking, and prolonged standing. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers, contractors, and team members. Communicates effectively. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.

Shift

Monday - Friday; 7 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m.; includes some evenings, weekends, and holidays
