  • Purpose

Youth Mental Health Counselors play a vital part in delivering high-quality mental health support through psychotherapy, assessments, individualized client support, and social-emotional learning (SEL) services. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to client wellness, and a deep understanding of mental health disorders.

  • Key Responsibilities
  • The Youth Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for :

  • Developing and implementing social-emotional (SEL) sessions for youth ages 7-18 to enhance their emotional intelligence and coping skills.
  • Facilitating psychoeducational groups to promote age-appropriate awareness of mental health and coping strategies.
  • Conducting individual wellness checks to assess the mental stability of youth in services.
  • Performing biopsychosocial assessments for youth and families.
  • Accurately documenting client interactions, assessments, support plans, and progress notes.
  • Ensuring compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards regarding documentation and confidentiality.
  • Working closely with a multidisciplinary team of internal and external mental health professionals and support staff to coordinate care and enhance treatment efficacy.
  • Attending regular team meetings and case conferences to discuss client progress and make necessary adjustments to service.
  • Facilitating training sessions for support staff to increase their knowledge of evidence-based practices.
  • Providing ongoing support and resources to clients between individual and group sessions, fostering a safe and trusting relationship.
  • Advocating for clients’ needs and facilitating referrals to additional services as appropriate.
  • Conducting debriefing sessions with staff and youth following incidents of seclusion or restraint to ensure that all intervention strategies were attempted prior to resorting to restrictive measures, and to discuss safety and prevention strategies to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
  • Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field is required.
  • A Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a mental health setting or clinical environment is preferred.
  • Possess a Valid WI Driver’s License and Clean Driving Record
  • A solid understanding of mental health diagnoses, youth development, trauma-informed care, family engagement strategies, and evidence-based practices is preferred.
