About the Role You’ll design, build, and commission automation & controls systems for projects in food & beverage (and similar industries). Projects range from small upgrades to full EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) scopes. You’ll be involved in front-end design through startup, working with PLCs, SCADA, control panels, and electrical systems. ~30% travel to job sites for site surveys, installation, commissioning. Responsibilities Develop PLC, HMI, SCADA, MES, and server / virtualization deliverables; lead commissioning & startup. Create control / instrument hardware specs : I / O lists, control narratives, panel design, device location, installation drawings. Work with vendors for panel / equipment, run FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests). Review P&IDs with process engineers; define control scope. Design electrical components : motor power (480V and below), conductor schedules, layouts. Ensure compliance with safety, food & beverage standards, and engineering codes. Lead / mentor junior team members; collaborate closely with project managers, construction, procurement, etc. Track project controls design against budget and schedule. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Controls / Mechanical / Chemical Engineering (ABET preferred). FE exam passed. 3+ years of experience in automation & controls, preferably on EPC projects. Master’s is a plus. Strong PLC & SCADA programming experience (Rockwell, Siemens, etc.). Skilled in control panel design, vendor specs, FATs. Solid understanding of instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow, level), control valves. Good communication and analytical / problem-solving skills. Ability to travel (~30%) and obtain required credentials (e.g. TWIC). PE license preferred. Preferred / Bonus Skills Experience with multiple PLC platforms (GE, Modicon, etc.). Experience with safety / control standards (NFPA, IEC, ISA / IEC61511, ISO13849). Familiarity with MES / Machine safety design, PackML or PlantPAX.
