• Two-year degree in nursing required; four-year degree preferred.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
• Intermediate proficiency with computers.
• Comprehensive nursing skills and general knowledge of equipment.
• Strong skills to manage, coordinate, and evaluate the care and education of patients and families.
• Strong quantitative and analytical competency.
• Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

Description :

The Registered Nurse position provides quality, professional, general nursing care to patients.

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care for a group of patients.

Must adapt appropriately to changes in daily assignments, patient status changes, and unit needs.

Use and perpetuate the nursing process throughout the patient's hospitalization.

Ensure that patient care is individualized to meet the patient's unique needs and situation.

Possess general knowledge of disease processes and anticipated treatments, labs, vital signs, and other potential complications.

Initiate, develop, and document patient plan of care based on patient assessment and medical diagnosis.

Set priorities for nursing action in accordance with departmental expectations.

Provide care independently with minimal supervision within the framework of unit requirements, physician orders, and policy and procedures.

Respond to life-threatening situations based upon nursing standards.

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of procedures and treatments.

Explain care procedures to patients at their level of understanding.

Perform or assist with procedures per approved departmental policy.

Observe and record significant condition changes or reactions for patients.

Timely notify healthcare providers of changes in patient conditions or reactions to treatments.

Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions utilizing computerized documentation systems.

Acknowledge physician's orders via the electronic medical record (EMR) and follow through in a timely manner.

Be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy.

Initiate patient / family education plans and discharge needs as prescribed.

Delegate to and collaborate with other health team members in planning and providing care.

Learn and maintain skills and equipment competencies as needed.

Safely care for multiple patients and maintain a safe environment.

Demonstrate understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions and infection control procedures.

Ensure proper handling of specimens and float to other units as necessary.

Participate in department or unit quality improvement activities.

Attend unit meetings in accordance with unit policy.
