Veterinary Assistant

VCA Avondale Veterinary Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our exceptional team!

Location : 4318 E. Army Post Road Des Moines, IA 50320

Compensation : $17 - $22 / hr

Schedule : FT days including Saturdays

What You'll Do :

As a member of VCA Avondale Veterinary Hospital, you will support the team by fostering a positive and low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients. Skills that will be utilized may include, but are not limited to :

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams and procedures
  • Take patient histories and perform TPRs (temperature, pulse, respiration)
  • Restrain animals safely and compassionately
  • Prepare and clean exam rooms
  • Assist with radiographs, lab sample collection, and basic in-house diagnostics
  • Maintain accurate medical records and support charting
  • Provide client education and ensure excellent service during visits
  • Support surgery prep and recovery as needed
  • Help maintain a clean, stocked, and organized hospital environment

    • Qualifications :

  • 2+ years experience in a veterinary setting as a Veterinary Assistant
  • Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
