The Financial Analyst I gathers, analyzes, and interprets complex datasets to produce reports for internal and external clients. This role is responsible for conducting data development, pricing analysis, extracting value sets, and quantifying the impact of various benefit designs on client utilization costs. This position has no direct reports.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned :

  • Derive and build financial models based on internal departments and client requests to develop and improve business strategies.
  • Develop cost analysis for clients to demonstrate the savings opportunities available.
  • Understand benefit designs and adjust analyses as necessary based on clients' customized plans.
  • Analyze claim development, trend and anomalies in utilization.
  • Create and build financial reporting as required by government entities.
  • Maintain and write customized data-mining queries that produce meaningful and actionable results within recurring reports utilized by internal and external stakeholders within established guidelines.
  • Provide consultation to internal and external stakeholders regarding trends, forecasting and future planning.
  • Participate in development and implementation of initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
  • Attend meetings and conference calls providing recommendations and explanations as needed.
  • Adopt new techniques and technologies.
  • Ensure work products satisfy internal compliance policies and are HIPAA compliant.
  • Track work and collaboration with internal stakeholders in established systems according to defined procedures.
  • Support the maintenance of team policies and procedural documentation.
  • Assist with mentoring and training of less experienced team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills. One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; respond promptly to client needs; solicit client feedback to improve service; respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; meet commitments to clients.

Education and / or Experience : BS / BA and 2+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Computer Skills :

  • Excellent working knowledge of analytical tools and software to support data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent working knowledge of SQL.
  • Excellent working knowledge of relational databases.
  • Comfortable working with large data sets
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft office products including Outlook and Word.

    Work Location :

    This position works on-site at the San Diego Headquarters or other company location (or from a remote location with management approval based on business requirements). Must provide adequate support to internal clients; be available for regular interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as be available to facilitate effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.

    Working Hours :

    This is a full-time non-exempt position requiring one to be able to work overtime from time to time in order to get the job done. Therefore, one must have the ability to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. This may be changed at any time to meet the needs of the business. The typical working hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 8 : 00am to 5 : 00pm.

    Travel :

    This position requires no travel however attendance maybe required at various local conferences and meetings.
