Base pay range

$32.00 / hr - $61.00 / hr

The Packaging Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, testing, and implementing innovative packaging solutions that enhance manufacturability, efficiency, and product integrity. Working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, this role collaborates cross-functionally with R&D, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Sourcing, and Marketing to support new product launches, production line startups, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise in packaging materials, machinery interface, and process optimization to drive quality, cost, and performance excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead packaging development from concept through commercialization, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct line trials, supplier experiments, commissioning, and startup activities to validate packaging performance and optimize system efficiency.
  • Develop and modify packaging specifications, drawings, and technical documentation using tools such as Interspec, Optiva, and PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to identify cost reduction, material optimization, and sustainability opportunities.
  • Support process engineering efforts related to cartoning, case packing, and automated packaging systems.
  • Analyze data to drive improvements in packaging design, manufacturability, and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare technical reports, financial analysis, and project updates for leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in package engineering within food or consumer goods manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of machine / material interface, packaging systems, and product commercialization processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and TOPS.
  • Experience with Interspec, Optiva, or similar PLM tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and project management skills.
