We are currently searching for an experienced
Transportation Design Section Manager
to manage projects and lead a design team in our
West Region
located in
Cottonwood Heights, UT .
This is an exciting opportunity to help continue to expand our services across the West Region and manage the operations of the Utah Engineering staff and win / manage projects. This position is responsible for complex engineering design tasks as well as marketing, business development, and client contact. Additional activities include managing the design and delivery of projects profitably while being actively involved in design issues and troubleshooting.
To be considered for this position, applicants musthave, at minimum, PE in Utah, 15 years of progressive Transportation / Roadway / Structural experience, 10+ years of working with UDOT, and 5 years of experience in management of engineering and support staff.
What you'll be doing :
Principal in Charge for all engineering design aspects of our Utah office (marketing and operations)
Be a practice builder - growing services, clients, and geography
Serve as the lead with key client and contract management
Recruit, develop and retain staff
Manage transportation projects to meet financial and technical requirements
Writing proposals
Participating and / or leading interviews
Performing contract negotiations
Project work planning
Supervising the execution of work
Prepare and deliver technical presentations
Participate in marketing and business development
What you need to have :
B.S. or M.S. in Civil engineering from ABET accredited engineering program
Licensed Utah P.E.
15+ years of progressive transportation / roadway / structural experience
5+ years of experience in management of engineering and support staff
Must be proficient with MicroStation and OpenRoads
Possess a strong understanding of project management
The ability to manage AND assist in the production of design deliverables
Experience working with UDOT
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
If applicable to the position, a post offer fit for duty evaluation to ensure the individual can safely perform the essential functions of the role
Valid driver's license
A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
