Job Description
Responsible for teaching courses and assessing learning outcomes in the disciplines of biology and environmental sciences. Assignments may include alternative delivery methods, evening courses, and multiple sites. Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and service and a commitment to the mission and values of the community college.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or Science Education
- Combination of 18 credit hours in Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry and / or Science Education (at least 6 must be from an appropriate sub-discipline)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching in higher education (as faculty, adjunct or concurrent) is preferred.Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction
Teaches courses in accordance with outcomes identified in the established course development model. Uses effective and appropriate instructional delivery methods.Participates in the design of appropriate courses and programs of instruction. Maintains currency of curriculum and collaborates in development and revision of curriculum as needed.Demonstrates satisfactory preparation and meets with classes as scheduled. Demonstrates rapport with students.Solicits and uses student feedback to improve teaching and learning practices.Establishes a clear and accurate syllabus for each class and posts syllabus in CANVAS. Communicates course objectives, instructional processes, evaluation policies and methods, and attendance policies to students.Evaluates and records student performance regularly and provides feedback. Establishes and maintains office hours to assist students.Collaborates with support services to assist student success and meets accommodations as required. Monitors and communicates with students about academic progress. Collaborates with advising to monitor progress and refer at-risk students using early alert tools and / or other mechanisms. Maintains attendance reports and delivers progress grades as required.Participates in outcomes assessment measurements adopted by the college. Plans and implements learning strategies to meet student outcomes. Analyzes results and makes revisions as needed.Involvement with the College and District
Serves on college and district committees, work groups, and task forces.Attends and participates in all scheduled faculty, college, district, and advisory meetings as appropriate.Assists college in recruitment and retention of students. Serves as an active department team member.Demonstrates professionalism at all times. Supports the college mission and high expectations.Professional Development
Retains professional qualifications and maintains standards as required for the position.Maintains professional development activity and records in accordance with college guidelines.Participates in professional meetings, workshops, and college / district development activities. Remains active and current in one\'s professional field and pedagogical best practices.All other duties as assigned.
