Housekeeping Field Manager
James Madison University's Facilities Management department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Day Shift Housekeeping Field Manager. This exempt position is scheduled Monday Friday, 6 : 00 a.m. 2 : 30 p.m., with occasional required overtime. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing housekeeping operations, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service across campus facilities. This position requires availability during inclement weather conditions and participation in the university's snow removal team to support campus operations.
Oversees day shift housekeeping operations across university service buildings, managing a large custodial staff and directly supervising two Assistant Managers.
Coordinates staff schedules, work assignments, and daily coverage to meet operational needs.
Manages administrative tasks including timekeeping, attendance tracking, and supply inventory oversight.
Supports implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and service expectations.
Oversees and manages all aspects of summer housekeeping operations, including scheduling and planning based on housing occupancy, camp timelines, and arrival / departure schedules, to ensure smooth and timely execution of all cleaning services.
Oversees all housekeeping operations during overtime events, including but not limited to athletic games such as football, baseball, and basketball, as well as graduation ceremonies.
Oversees the assignment and tracking of housekeeping work orders to ensure timely and efficient completion of tasks.
The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
Required : Strong understanding of professional housekeeping practices, standards, and procedures.
Supervisory experience in a custodial or facilities management setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel).
Knowledge of proper handling, cleaning, and disposal procedures for bloodborne pathogens.
Familiarity with workplace safety protocols and compliance standards.
Excellent interpersonal and people management skills; ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Proven ability to supervise and evaluate the work performance of staff.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to mediate and resolve employee relations issues professionally.
Capable of interpreting policies, and regulations and applying them appropriately to housekeeping operations.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
Applicants must be at least 19 years old, possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 24 months, and have an acceptable motor vehicle report.
