IT Field Technician (On-Site) Job Description We are seeking a skilled and adaptable IT Field Technician to provide on-site and remote support for hardware, software, and network systems.
This role involves installing, configuring, and troubleshooting desktops, laptops, servers, routers, switches, and peripheral devices such as printers and scanners.
The technician will assist with maintaining LAN and WAN environments, diagnosing connectivity issues, and ensuring optimal network performance.
Responsibilities include delivering technical support to end-users, resolving hardware and software problems, and documenting service actions and IT inventory.
The technician will also support IT security by applying updates, configuring firewalls, and ensuring antivirus protection.
Additional duties include training users on basic IT procedures, managing equipment inventory, installing structured cabling, and conducting scheduled or emergency on-site visits.
Strong collaboration with internal teams, clients, and vendors is essential for resolving complex technical issues and coordinating repairs or replacements.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, maintain compliance with data protection standards, and effectively manage their schedule to meet service level agreements and client expectations.
This role requires flexibility, a proactive approach to learning new technologies, and the ability to respond promptly to critical IT issues when needed. Requirements Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking is essential.
This includes familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS), hardware components, and common software applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Field Technicians often interact with end-users and must be able to explain technical issues and solutions in a clear and understandable manner. Field Technicians need the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot common hardware and software problems.
Logical thinking and problem-solving skills are crucial. Excellent customer service skills are important, as Field Technicians often work directly with end-users who may be experiencing technical issues or frustrations. The ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks is crucial, especially when responding to multiple service requests in a field setting. Familiarity with basic networking concepts, such as IP addressing, DHCP, and DNS, is beneficial as Field Technicians often work with networked devices. All positions require the successful completion of a criminal background check, and further background checks if the position involves access to sensitive information or secure facilities. This position requires travel to different locations, which requires a valid driver’s license, intermittent DMV checks, and a reliable personal vehicle.
