Overview
The Consultant, Payroll Tax, is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timely filing of all U.S. payroll tax activities. This role involves maintaining in-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations, managing tax correspondences and reconciliations, and coordinating with third-party payroll tax providers. The Consultant will play a key role in payroll tax governance, internal controls, and process improvement to ensure compliance and accuracy across all payroll tax operations.
Responsibilities
- Research and stay current with payroll tax compliance laws and regulations; communicate applicable changes and provide recommendations for implementation
- Collaborate with internal teams and workstreams to resolve employee payroll tax inquiries within defined service level agreements (SLAs)
- Analyze payroll and employee data entries impacting tax withholding or reporting; identify root causes, document findings, and propose corrective actions
- Record, monitor, and resolve agency tax notices and tracers in collaboration with third-party providers and government agencies
- Perform detailed jurisdictional reconciliations to support internal and external audits
- Create ad hoc reports to support payroll, tax, and compliance functions
- Execute system testing to verify the accuracy and timeliness of payroll tax changes
- Monitor and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance and timely payroll tax filings
- Audit and validate payroll tax filings and reports submitted by third-party service providers
- Review and confirm payroll tax deposits to ensure accuracy and on-time submission
- Identify and escalate unusual transactions as appropriate; coordinate resolutions with third-party providers
- Support quarter-end balancing and year-end payroll tax processes, including collaboration with ADP Tax Services
- Initiate and record earnings and tax adjustments as directed by international tax partners; ensure proper documentation and compliance for expatriate and inpatriate employees
- Resolve ServiceNow cases in alignment with key performance indicators, maintaining high levels of customer service
- Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, and at least two years of payroll tax experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (five years of tax experience without a degree or an associate degree plus two years of experience)Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll tax laws, regulations, and best practicesProficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applicationsExperience with multi-state and multi-company payroll processingStrong analytical and critical thinking skills for issue investigation and resolutionAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlinesExperience with Workday payroll module requiredExperience with ADP payroll and tax systems preferredWork Schedule and Location
