Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills
Comfort with blood cultures and central line care
Experience with PCA pumps and Heparin gtts
Description :
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Oncology / Hematology unit.
The facility is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a teaching hospital.
The unit comprises 24 beds, with 16 beds dedicated to Hematology / Oncology and 8 beds for Bone Marrow Transplant.
The average daily census is 22.
All RNs work interchangeably across the unit.
Patient population includes ages from neonate to adult.
Common diagnoses include solid tumor cancers, leukemia, sickle cell, and aplastic anemia.
There is a focus on a highly acute bone marrow transplant population.
Experience in providing care for patients post-BMT is highly preferred.
RNs will manage patients through critical treatment phases.
This involves caring for patients during the day 0, day 1, and subsequent days unless they require intubation.
The unit accepts off-service patients without communicable infections due to a neutropenic population.
Behavioral health pediatric patients may also be included, requiring familiarity with various adjustment disorders.
Patient ratios are determined by acuity, with Hematology / Oncology at 1 : 3 and Bone Marrow Transplant at 1 : 1-2.
Support within the department includes Charge RN, Unit Educator, and Task RN.
There are resources like security and the telemetry monitoring team available around the clock.
Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities are essential.
Nurses are expected to adapt to changing needs across different patient care environments.
