Company Description

The company has facilities in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, Franklin Virginia and Duluth, Minnesota. The company operates five tissue machines and produces bath tissue, paper towels, and napkin parent rolls primarily for the Away-from-Home segment of the North American tissue market.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Control Engineer to join our team and play a critical role in supporting and advancing our tissue production operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in process control systems, particularly Valmet DCS, with proven ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and program both legacy and modern control architectures. Experience with Quality Control Systems (QCS) and other DCS platforms such as ABB or Honeywell is strongly desired. This role ensures the mill runs safely, efficiently, and at the highest quality standards through effective control system design, maintenance, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities :

 System Maintenance & Optimization : Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Quality Control Systems (QCS)—both legacy and current—to ensure reliable and efficient mill operations.

 Control Loop Programming : Design, implement, and refine control loops using ABB and Valmet platforms, ensuring stable and consistent process performance.

 Legacy System Adaptation : Support and maintain older control systems, ensuring continued operation while preparing for future modernization.

 System Upgrades & Integration : Lead and execute DCS / QCS upgrade projects, integrating new technologies with existing infrastructure for improved performance and sustainability.

 Technical Support : Serve as the go-to expert for process control issues. Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.

 Documentation & Compliance : Maintain up-to-date documentation for system configurations, code changes, and maintenance activities. Ensure all control systems comply with industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.

 Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities to enhance system reliability, reduce downtime, and improve product quality through process automation and control strategies.

 Training & Mentorship : Train and mentor operations staff, technicians, and junior engineers on control system usage, troubleshooting, and best practices.
