Overview

Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. CREC serves 33 member districts and reaches additional communities statewide, supporting approximately 12,000 students annually through more than 120 educational programs. Our offerings include professional learning and coaching for educators, specialized programming for students with diverse needs, and PreK-12 education across 16 interdistrict magnet schools. CREC also provides school construction, operations, and cooperative business services, and delivers programs to help adults build real, job-ready skills.

Position Summary

The Site Supervisor is responsible for the management and operations of the Head Start / Early Head Start Center, staffing, and early childhood programming. The Site Supervisor will ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory and legal regulations, and will work as part of the Management team under the direction of the Assistant Director of Operations.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Develop and foster relationships with families, staff, and community providers.
  • Ensure a welcoming, safe, and healthy environment for children and staff.
  • Supervise staff and assist the Director, Assistant Director, Specialists, and Coordinators in monitoring compliance, supporting instruction, training, counseling, and evaluating staff.
  • Ensure the tracking of necessary data and provide reports as needed.
  • Assist administration in implementing practices and requirements to meet Head Start Performance standards and guidelines. Serves as the administration's "voice" in the center.
  • Assist in the implementation of seamless, integrated services for children and families by adhering to program-specific work plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Supervise Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and / or other assigned staff. Monitor and counsel educational staff and take appropriate action to ensure compliance. Develops and follows up with Improvement Plans as necessary.
  • Monitor and coordinate staff schedules and arrange coverage for the center as required; maintain required staffing levels, ratios, and active supervision at all times.
  • Assist with reviewing candidates, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and coaching of employees.
  • Schedule and implement parent committees to facilitate home-school connection and parent participation.
  • Ensure health and safety monitoring of the facility including indoor and outdoor learning environments; submission of work orders, completion of safety drills, and adherence to all Emergency Operations Plans.
  • Investigate all child and staff incidences, completing all forms and notifying appropriate authorities and chain of command.
  • Provide leadership, professional development, and coaching to center employees. Conduct regular meetings and / or trainings with teaching staff and aides to monitor and evaluate assessments.
  • Monitor, facilitate, and support best practices in early education and family service in conjunction with the staff, management, and other content area leads.
  • Participate in training opportunities, state meetings, committees, and task forces as appropriate.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality concerning Head Start / Early Head Start children, families, and staff per established policies and procedures.
  • Establish and carry out content-relevant MOUs for the program.
  • Create, foster, and maintain a positive culture and climate across the program and support the mission and vision of CREC and CREC Head Start.
  • Ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and all federal, state, and local entities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages, and is responsible for, the performance management of the employees of the department and assists with hiring as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Three (3) years of successfully supervising staff.
  • Experience working with school-age children and knowledge of child development and services to infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and families.
  • Travel Requirements

    Motor Vehicle Operator's License, and reliable personal vehicle, are required for local travel between centers, and attendance at meetings, trainings, and professional learning opportunities as required.

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Working in CREC's Early Childhood program requires prolonged standing / movement, frequent bending and crouching, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs., fine motor skills for manipulating small objects, clear speaking voice, good vision and hearing, the ability to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously, and sometimes the need to move quickly to respond to student needs. Staff require the ability to work in a high-energy environment with varying noise levels. Staff is expected to work both indoors and outdoors and may be required to participate in off-site field experiences.
