Model Maker (CNC)

  • ? Location : New Haven, CT
  • ? Compensation : $38.00 – $40.00 per hour (approximately $80,000 annually)
  • ? Schedule : Full-time, Onsite

About the Role :

We are seeking a highly skilled Model Maker (CNC) to join an innovative engineering and product development team in New Haven, CT. This is an exciting opportunity to support the creation of cutting-edge product designs and custom test apparatus by applying your expertise in CNC machining, fabrication, and precision model making.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and lab technicians in a modern, hands-on model shop environment — transforming engineering concepts into reality.

Responsibilities :

Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings to accurately model and fabricate component parts and assemblies.

Operate and maintain CNC machinery, milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, and other shop equipment.

Create and modify CNC programs using Mastercam , SolidWorks , and G-code to ensure machining precision.

Design and build custom fixtures, jigs, and tooling to support complex machining operations.

Work with a variety of materials including metals, plastics, and wood to produce high-quality parts and prototypes.

Collaborate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and improve product development efficiency.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications :

5+ years of experience in a model shop or precision machining environment.

Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes.

Strong proficiency in CAM programming and G-code editing .

Experience with Mastercam and SolidWorks (version 2018 or newer) required.

Ability to read blueprints, interpret GD&T, and perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments.

Completion of a formal apprenticeship or technical trade school program preferred.

Excellent attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem-solving skills.
