We do this through an innovative curriculum that blends dynamic physical activity with life skills lessons and community impact projects, all led by trained volunteer coaches. Position Profile
Girls on the Run Minnesota (GOTR MN) seeks a visionary builder and energetic doer to lead our statewide programming as Program Director. This is a unique leadership opportunity to shape strategy, inspire people, and turn big ideas into lasting impact for thousands of girls every year.
The Program Director will workclosely with the Executive Director as a strategic thought-partner, helping guide organizational priorities, providing counsel, and co-creating the vision for the future. The Program Director will also supervise a team of 35 program coordinators who provide direct support for hundreds of volunteers across Minnesota. The ideal candidate is an experienced and confident manager who thrives in building and leading a high-performing team, while also being hands-on with strategy, operations, and relationships.
This role is equal parts big-picture leader and detail-oriented implementer : someone who can set strategy, motivate and inspire staff and volunteers, and ensure day-to-day programming runs smoothly. The Program Director will expand access to GOTR across the state, remove barriers to participation, and ensure program quality and measurable impact.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizational Leadership & Strategic Partnership
- Advise and co-strategize with the Executive Director, providing confidential counsel.
- Lead programs and services, inspiring staff and volunteers while identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand access and impact across Minnesota.
- Champion belonging across all programming and organizational culture.
Program Oversight
Direct statewide implementation of GOTR programs, including a fall and spring season each year and a one-week Camp GOTR experience each summer.Oversee all program logistics, including site recruitment and retention, coach and participant registration, coach training, program materials, and online resourcesAnticipate operational challenges and develop innovative solutions to strengthen program delivery.Build and foster authentic, lasting relationships with schools, volunteers, families, alumni, and community partners.Ensure that GOTR programs are implemented as intended and set up for long-term successLead program evaluation efforts through data analysis, site visits, surveys, and volunteer engagement.Team Leadership & Supervision
Supervise and mentor a team of 35 program coordinators across Minnesota (Twin Cities, Southern and Northern regions) who in turn support hundreds of volunteers.Set clear goals, assign accountabilities, monitor progress, and cultivate a high-performing, collaborative team culture.Provide consistent feedback, coaching, and professional development to ensure coordinators and staff thrive.Promote teamwork, authentic engagement, and a collaborative, mission-driven culture.Volunteer Leadership & Training
Lead volunteer recruitment, training, and retention strategies to ensure program success and growth statewide.Set an inclusive and welcoming tone in all volunteer interactions.Improve volunteer procedures and support systems.Recognize and celebrate volunteers, cultivating a motivated, connected network.Financial & Operational Management
Partner with the Executive Director and Operations Director on financial forecasting, projections, and mid-season adjustments.Develop and manage the annual program budget, ensuring resources are aligned with organizational priorities.Streamline operations to improve efficiency and sustainability.Events & External Engagement
Provide leadership for statewide events (5Ks, Limitless Potential Luncheon, community gatherings, etc.) to connect participants, volunteers, and supporters with GOTRs mission.Represent the organization externally as a credible, inspiring spokesperson.Participate in board meetings as invited, showcasing program needs and impact.Who You Are
You bring 810 years of experience in non-profit management and / or program / project management, including staff supervision.Youre an exceptional communicator and relationship-builder who leads with warmth and authenticity.Youre a proactive leader who thrives on taking initiative and moving from strategy to action.Youre committed to building and cultivating a culture of belonging and mutual respect.Youre flexible, adaptive, and energized by working in a dynamic nonprofit setting.You have regular access to a personal vehicle for independent travel throughout Minnesota.Youre willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to support program seasons and events.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with Girls on the Run or similar youth / wellness programs.Connections to Minnesota communities.Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, or Somali.Position Specifics
Full-time, salaried position : $90,000Includes generous PTO, health and dental insurance, retirement plan with employer match, monthly mileage and cell phone stipends, and flexible hybrid work policy (in-person at our St Paul office 3 days / week, 2 days remote).Evening and weekend hours required, with vacation blackout periods during event seasons.All positions require a successful background check.To Apply
