Overview
Bet Tzedek Legal Services seeks a determined, organized, and zealous attorney to work in our new coordinated service delivery program. This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services' hybrid / remote workplace designation. Depending on workload, the employee may be required to work in the office or other locations. This requirement may be temporary or ongoing.
Salary and Benefits
Salary : $72,495.22-$82,001.88

Essential Duties (Responsibilities)
Attend monthly clinics to provide legal advice and limited-scope representation to individuals at risk of eviction or who have experienced evictionCollaborate with Bet Tzedek's Community Outreach Coordinator, NCJW|LA, and Community Coalition to develop and review education and training materialsTrain case managers at social service organizations on how to enforce clients' general housing rights and fair housing rightsProvide legal representation, limited-scope representation, and counsel to tenants and unhoused residents to remove barriers to safe, stable, and affordable housingLitigate landlord-tenant cases, including filing motions to seal eviction records and regularly representing clients in settlement negotiationsProvide legal services to prevent and appeal terminations from the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) programEnforce fair housing rights by writing demand letters and filing Civil Rights Department complaintsWrite reasonable accommodation letters to obtain or preserve access to safe, affordable housingWrite demand letters to enforce rights of tenants experiencing harassment, illegal rent increases, and violations of the implied warranty of habitabilityQualifications
Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Bet Tzedek's mission and core values (required)Active member of the California State Bar in good standing (required)Ability to work independently while receiving case support and supervision (required)Minimum two years' experience in non-profit legal services (preferred)Experience in landlord-tenant law (required)Experience in fair housing law (required)Demonstrated commitment to applying principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in performance of job duties (required)Seniority level
