Electrical Power Systems Modeling Engineer
One Year Contract (Potential Conversion to Full-time). Hybrid. Taylor, TX.
Overview
Role : Electrical Power Systems Modeling Engineer. Two roles available — Associate and Senior / Lead. The candidate will provide backfill support for modeling and facilitate Senior Modelers by freeing bandwidth to address questions and coordinate Large Load into Operations, Markets and Planning Models.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Develops Operations models, and Steady State, Short Circuit, and Geomagnetic Disturbance planning models
- Analyze transmission network data including transmission and generation element parameters
- Collaborate with Network Model Maintenance, Network Model Coordination, Resource Integration, System Operations, System Planning, Forward Markets, Client Services, and Grid Applications Development
- Perform load flow with the EMS and Transmission Planning software, Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) simulations, and use other analysis software to provide accurate power system models and reports
- Support detailed model changes delivered by Network Operations Model Change Requests (NOMCRs) and Planning Model Change Requests (PMCRs) to maintain accurate Network Operations Model, Annual Planning, and other models in the company modeling system
- Assist with validation of the Network Model Management (NMMS) and Model on Demand (MOD) databases, testing of models and associated power flows
- Create and utilize data mining mechanisms to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency
- Provide training and mentoring of members of the Engineering Development Program (EDP)
- Coordinate with NDSWG, SSWG, and SPWG on data exchange and model maintenance via NOMCR, PMCR, ASPEN and PSSE change files
- Review generator and transmission equipment data submitted by generators and model sites in the company planning models using PSSE and ASPEN
- Review new technology implementations that affect the model and implement methods to accurately model these technologies
- Develop and maintain modeling software tools to build operations and planning models
- Develop, maintain, and support database infrastructure, model data exchange interfaces, and data export formats
- Manage updates and upgrades of NMMS and MOD applications, review system patches, and administer servers
- Improve model accuracy through data comparisons and validity checks; review, draft, and implement improvements to the modeling process
- Draft and present changes to protocols, guides, procedures, training material for EDP and Market Participants, and other company documents related to modeling
