Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 1 trauma Emergency Department position in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and multiple critical care certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department within an acute care hospital
  • Unit features 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays
  • Nurse to patient ratios range from 1 : 3 to 1 : 5, based on acuity and department needs
  • Care for a broad patient population, from newborns to the elderly, including minor complaints, critically ill, cardiac arrest, strokes, heart attacks, and trauma
  • Utilize and interpret Phillips monitors and titrate various drips, including vasopressors and cardiac medications
  • Use the Epic EMR system
  • Schedule consists of three 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) per week, with rotating weekends and holidays
  • No call requirement for travelers
  • Possible float to provide support on other units, but not to take an assignment
  • Scrub attire should be tasteful with solid colored shirts underneath; no specific color required
  • Work alongside a team of attending physicians, charge nurses, house supervisors, and ED techs
  • Travelers may care for stabilized trauma patients but will not serve as the primary nurse in the trauma bay
  • Monitor techs assist, but competency in rhythm interpretation is required
  • ED techs support the department with a 1 : 9 ratio; respiratory therapists assist with advanced equipment
  • Block scheduling may be available; time off requests considered during contract negotiation
  • Holiday coverage is negotiable based on department needs
  • No radius rule for candidates; local pay rate applies for those within 50 miles
  • Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current certifications required : BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS
  • Minimum of 2 years of emergency nursing experience required
  • At least one prior travel assignment preferred
  • Proficiency in titrating drips and managing critical care medications required
  • Experience in trauma care and teaching hospital settings preferred
  • Ability to interpret and act on life-threatening rhythms expected
  • Must be comfortable drawing labs and supporting critically ill patients
