Overview
As a Manufacturing Automation Engineer, you will lead efforts to design, implement, and optimize automated systems that improve productivity, reduce costs, and maintain high standards of quality and safety. You'll collaborate across teams to streamline workflows, solve technical challenges, and drive innovation using your expertise in robotics, programming, and control systems.
Responsibilities
- Manage line setups, layouts, and tooling
- Specify lot sizes, pack codes, and packaging
- Conduct time studies and balance build sequences
- Support quality assembly with fixtures, tools, lifting devices, and testing equipment
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and machine vision systems
- Design and implement automation solutions aligned with project goals
- Upgrade systems to improve quality and productivity
- Control scope, schedule, budget, and quality
- Create CAD drawings (SolidWorks / AutoCAD)
- Develop cost estimates and ROI analyses
- Execute validation protocols (IQ / OQ / PQ)
- Participate in design reviews and root-cause investigations
- Identify process improvement opportunities
- Provide technical support and operator training
- Maintain documentation and perform preventive maintenance
- Ensure safety and environmental compliance
- Act as SME and communicate across teams and with suppliers
- Report findings impacting cost, timeline, or scope
- Support continuous improvement and strategic initiatives
- Maintain routing times and quality control documentation
- Implement corrective actions from audits and complaints
- Participate in planning and engineering meetings
- Support new product launches and production floor
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Prior experience in Manufacturing EngineeringThorough understanding of manufacturing process and proceduresCritical thinking and problem solving skillsStrong mathematical, analytical and statistical skillsExtremely strong written and verbal communication skillsIndividual and team interaction skillsExcellent time management skillsAbility to work independently and follow through to completionStrong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, BPCS)Working knowledge of CAD softwareExperience with PLCs, HMI, SCADA systems, and industrial computer networksProven ability to achieve resultsEducation and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experienceCertifications such as CAP (Certified Automation Professional), CCST (Certified Control Systems Technician) or CMfgE (Certified Manufacturing Engineer) preferred1-3 years of experience in a similar role, achieving results in a fast-paced, challenging manufacturing environmentExperience working in a LEAN manufacturing environment and with continuous improvement projectsExperience with production assembly processes, and manufacturing operating systemsKnowledge of machine control and machine visionKnowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.)Knowledge of cGMP and validation (IQ / OQ / PQ) requirementsPhysical Requirements
