Surgery - Trauma Physician

The Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence (LVISE) part of Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN ), a premier regional health system and proud member of Jefferson Health, seeks an outstanding leader in Trauma & Acute Care Surgery to serve as the Division Chief of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and the Level I Trauma Medical Director at our Cedar Crest site. In addition, this position includes oversight of all the trauma centers at legacy LVHN.

LVISE has one of the country s largest and busiest trauma systems. It is comprised of one Level I adult trauma center and one Level II pediatric trauma center at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) Cedar Crest, one Level II trauma center at LVH Muhlenberg, one Level III trauma center at LVH Pocono and three Level IV trauma centers at LVH Hazleton , LVH Schuylkill and LVH Hecktown Oaks.

The Division of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery consists of approximately 20 employed physicians along with significant advance practice clinician support. As Division Chief of LVHN Trauma and Critical Care Surgery, you will :

In partnership with the Physician-in-Chief, to whom the successful candidate would report, and the Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the incumbent will oversee overall clinical and administrative operations of the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. Provide leadership and management oversight in the areas of quality improvement, clinical program development, business development, medical staff relationships, policy development and education.

Essential functions include :

• Be accountable to the Department Chair, the Surgical Executive Committee (SEC) and the members of his / her division.
• Meet with the Department Chair on a regular basis to examine short and long-term programmatic development strategy and division needs.
• Conduct bimonthly division meetings.
• Monitor compliance with the Department of Surgery attendance policy for meetings.
• Oversee clinical operations for all trauma and acute care surgery at all locations.
• Serve as the Trauma Medical Director of the Level I Adult Trauma Center.
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
• Maintain divisional guidelines for emergency call responsibility, subject to approval of the Physician in Chief of LVISE.
• Chair all the Performance Improvement Activities at the Level I Adult Trauma Center.
• Oversee all the Performance Improvement Activities at all the LVHN trauma centers.
• Mentor Division members, promote educational programs and encourage scientific inquiry.
• Work with the Physician-in-Chief and ELC to direct the strategy and vision for the Institute for Surgical Excellence by contributing insights from the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Division, as well as adhere to and uphold the Citizenship commitments.
• Work collaboratively with leadership across all divisions and across LVHN.
• Determine the degree of proctoring necessary to ensure the quality of care delivered by new members of the division and be responsible for overseeing the proctoring.
• Other duties as assigned by the Chair.
