Looking to leave your mark on the EMS system by making it stronger, more resilient, and improving system quality? Maine EMS is seeking candidates for the Emergency Medical Services (Dispatch) Licensing Agent position with the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. This position sits at the nexus between facilitation, guidance, and regulation to ensure consistency and standards within our system.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

This position is a critical component of the faciliatory and regulatory roles of the Maine EMS system. Individuals in this position will work closely with the Maine EMS community and ESCB to address concerns regarding quality assurance, quality improvement, licensure, and investigations. This position also works collaboratively with members of the Maine EMS team, Boards, and stakeholders to assist with system building throughout the state.

JOB DUTIES :

Duties include investigating complaints, conducting Emergency Communications Center and EMS service inspections, processing service and clinician licensure applications, assisting with technical support for EMS licensing; and working with state, regional, and local EMS agencies to support the state emergency medical service system. This position also will support sub-committees of the Maine EMS Board(s) as we continue to move the system forward within the state. Work is performed under limited supervision.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of state and federal EMS system laws, rules, regulations, policies, and protocols
  • Knowledge of emergency medical treatment
  • Knowledge of emergency personnel, services, and geographic areas of coverage
  • Knowledge of the Maine EMS Run Reporting System
  • Knowledge of the requirements for EMS licensure
  • Knowledge of the educational infrastructure of Maine EMS system
  • Ability to administer examinations and inspect ambulances and ambulance services for conformity to regulations & standards
  • Ability to maintain records
  • Ability to draft legislation and draft and interpret regulations
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

Licensure as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher / Terminal Operator, and / or Intermediate EMT or completion of the training leading to licensure AND two (2) years' experience as an active provider of emergency medical services.

LICENSING / REGISTRATION / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class).

Some positions may be required to meet all training and testing requirements for licensure as an EMT, Emergency Medical Dispatcher / Terminal Operator, and possession of a Maine Class C Motor Vehicle Operator License.

Preference will be given to those candidates :

Who are licensed Paramedics, who hold an Emergency Medical Dispatcher License or training

and to those who hold an associate degree in an associated field.
