Perinatal Sonographer-Marietta Maternal Fetal Medicine
Shift : FT Day
Responsible for performing inpatient and outpatient diagnostic, level II ultrasounds for the diagnosis of complex fetal anomalies including, but not limited to cardiac defects, intracranial defects, and other systemic defects. Assist and perform ultrasounds during guided procedures, such as genetic amniocentesis, amnioreductions, and chorionic villus sampling. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and correctly position patient for the procedure. Must be able to provide proper high-level disinfection of probes. Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study.

Perinatal Sonographer Specific Role Competencies : -
Education a. Maintenance of lifelong certification. b. Provide guidance for general OB / GYN sonographers. c. Obtain and maintain the following certifications : fetal echo, nuchal translucency, CLEAR within 3 years.
Effective Communication a. Verbal communication with physician, genetic counselor and team regarding ultrasound findings. b. Maintenance of Excel spreadsheet, tracking diagnoses.
Efficiency a. Subject matter expert regarding specific ultrasound machines. b. Organization of ultrasound reports.
AIUM Certification a. Active involvement and ability to assist practice in AIUM Certification by providing properly labeled and clear scans and following protocols. 5% Core Competencies : Equipment

Required Minimum Skills :
Must exhibit excellent communication skills because this position requires frequent verbal and written communications with : physicians, patients, visitors, departmental staff and nursing staff. The employee obtains, presents and discusses clinical information regarding job responsibilities on a routine basis. Candidate must be able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and obtain cooperation with all contacts. Must possess the ability to function independently and under pressure while still actively participating in a team environment. Position requires the employee to always exhibit excellent customer service skills.
Must be able to perform effectively in a stressful and fast paced work environment. Must have the ability to prioritize appropriately. Must be detail oriented and have the capacity to effectively multitask throughout the work shift. Must have excellent communication skills and the capacity to interact professionally with a variety of “customers”, including but not limited to patients, families, co-workers, volunteers, and physicians throughout the work shift. Must possess the ability to function independently, yet productively as a cooperative team member with various work teams associated with the position. Must be compliant, with a willingness to follow all Hospital policies as well as the established practices, protocols and procedures of the position, department and applicable professional standards.
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department per department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and / or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure.
Competent in all aspects of Ultrasound, patient positioning, exposure factors. Must understand anatomy and pathology and how they affect the quality of a procedure.
Must be able to communicate effectively with Physician and Genetic Counselor.
Must be able to effectively perform the following : transvaginal ultrasounds for evaluation of cervical insufficiency, 3D and 4D ultrasonography for evaluation of complex facial, spine, and cardiac defects, first trimester nuchal translucency ultrasounds for early genetic evaluation.
Must be able to effectively participate in the following : Assist MFM physicians and other sonographer(s) in AIUM accreditation, creation and updating of fetal care conference lists for coordination of care by nurse navigators and MFM providers, educate and guide general OB / GYN sonographers in the network.
Cover inpatient ultrasound call as needed.
