Structural Engineer
The Structural Engineer is responsible for reviewing and evaluating PSD Architectural and Structural designs throughout all phases of design and construction, with a focus on improving construction efficiency, minimizing material and labor costs, and ensuring seamless coordination between architectural and structural requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include :
- Lead the structural design of vertical projects, including new buildings, renovations, and additions, utilizing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems to meet applicable codes, loads, and project requirements.
- Assist and collaborate with outside engineering firms on selected projects.
- Prepare and review structural drawings, specifications, design reports, and calculation packages using software such as Revit, AutoCAD, and structural analysis tools.
- Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, and contractors to integrate structural systems with other building components, ensuring constructability, efficiency, and compatibility across disciplines.
- Perform design and documentation in accordance with IRC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and other relevant building codes and standards.
- Evaluate structural framing requirements in relation to PSD architectural and client goals and perform schematic design reviews and analysis.
- Create structural designs in CAD / BIM models, working with project managers and design staff to align architectural requirements.
- Address specific structural considerations such as wall alignment, ceiling and roof steel components, chimneys, stairs, and other complex design elements.
- Review and create in-house structural drawings; advise on revisions and potential cost impacts, suggesting alternative solutions when appropriate.
- Provide technical support during construction, including reviewing steel fabrication shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs; attend pre-construction conferences; conduct periodic field visits to verify installation accuracy and resolve construction challenges.
- Assist in developing project schedules, scope, and budgets; work with project managers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of structural engineering services.
- Participate in final project reviews to apply lessons learned to future projects.
- Maintain and update PSD Structural Standard CAD details; attend structural seminars to expand technical knowledge.
- Provide structural support for the Small Project Division as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.5–8 years of experience in structural design and analysis.Strong knowledge of residential construction, including relevant building codes and scope of work.Proficiency in Revit (required), AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.Ability to read, interpret, and implement adjustments to architectural and structural construction documents.Preferred Requirements
Master's degree in Structural Engineering or related field.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Knowledge of advanced analysis techniques, including finite element modeling.Working Conditions & Physical Demands
