Overview
The Two River Times, a nonprofit community newspaper serving Monmouth County, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Website, Classifieds & Social Media Assistant to support both our editorial and business operations.
This position plays an important role in connecting the community to local news and services by managing digital content, classified advertising, and online engagement. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable interacting with readers and local businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Website & Digital Content
- Upload, format, and proof stories, headlines, and photos to tworivertimes.com using WordPress
- Ensure all online content is accurate, properly tagged, and visually consistent
- Update homepage features, image galleries, and community listings
- Assist with sharing published stories, announcements, and promotions on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and X)
- Monitor the website for broken links, errors, or outdated information
Classified Advertising & Business Support
Verify the accuracy of all ads and customer information before publicationSolicit, arrange, coordinate, and schedule classified ads via phone, email, and in-person inquiriesProvide excellent customer service to walk-in and call-in customers and maintain professional telephone etiquetteAssist the Business Office with billing, collections, and general office tasks as neededTrack invoices, payments, and advertiser balances; help keep accounts current and assist in collections of past-due accountsAccurately and professionally handle cash and credit card transactions following accounting proceduresMaintain organized systems for classified orders, advertiser information, and internal recordsSupport efforts to meet financial goals for classified and digital advertisingQualifications
Demonstrated high ethical standards and commitment to accuracyExperience in media, newspaper, or customer service preferred (sales experience a plus)Familiarity with WordPress, Microsoft Office, and social media platformsAbility to use computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and schedulingStrong organizational and time-management skills; able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervisionExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong phone etiquetteFamiliarity with Salesforce or similar CRM preferred but not requiredInterest in local journalism and community engagementSeniority level
